System Performance Gain by Interference Cancellation in WCDMA Dedicated and High-Speed Downlink Channels

چکیده
A large number of the existing and planned 3G networks rely on the 3GPP WCDMA standard. Since the downlink of WCDMA systems is usually interference limited, interference cancellation algorithms that reduce the interference on the desired signal can significantly improve the system capacity. In this paper, the system-level performance gain that can be achieved by interference cancellation on the terminal side is investigated. Two downlink channels are considered: the dedicated downlink channel, which is already part of the WCDMA standard, and the new high-speed downlink channel for packet-data support, which will be part of Release 5 of the WCDMA standard. In the analysis, four receiver classes are compared: the standard Rake receiver, a Rake receiver with pilot subtraction, a linear MMSE equalizer, and a non-linear iterative successive cancellation algorithm. The resulting performance gains and the necessary implementation complexity are discussed.

A multipath interference cancellation technique for WCDMA downlink receivers
In this paper, we present a simple interference cancellation technique for the downlink of wideband codedivision multiple-access (WCDMA) systems in multipath environment. With the same knowledge required by a RAKE receiver, the present method acts as an equalizer and cancels the interfering multipath signals from the received signal to retrieve the orthogonality property of the received signal....
متن کاملAdvanced high speed packet access receiver for WCDMA multicode transmissions with high-order modulation
High speed downlink packet access (HSDPA) is underway supporting the evolution of third-generation systems to meet the rapidly developing needs on high data rate. The high order modulation has been proposed for the adaptive modulation and coding sets to increase the transmission data rate for users with high signal to noise plus interference ratio. However, the high order modulation is signific...
متن کاملTurbo coded HSDPA systems with transmit diversity over frequency selective fading channels
Transmit diversity is one of the key contributions to the 3G (third generation) WCDMA (wide-band code division multiple access) systems to accommodate high data-rate applications, where spatial diversity is introduced into the signal by transmitting through multiple antennas. While turbo codes are well understood to be able to provide powerful error correction ability in a SISO (single input si...
متن کاملChip-Level Channel Equalization in WCDMA Downlink
The most important third generation (3G) cellular communications standard is based on wideband CDMA (WCDMA). Receivers based on TDMA style channel equalization at the chip level have been proposed for a WCDMA downlink employing long spreading sequences to ensure adequate performance even with a high number of active users. These receivers equalize the channel prior to despreading, thus restorin...
متن کاملAdaptive channel equalization in WCDMA downlink in soft handover
Receivers based on channel equalization have proven to be one of the most promising candidates for terminal receivers in wideband code-division multiple-access (WCDMA) downlink. The channel equalizers provide multiple access interference (MAI) suppression, and thus ensure adequate receiver performance even with a high number of active users. However, the suitability of the equalizers to soft ha...
